Thinking
about coming? -March
12th is not too far, and hotels are already about 50% booked
for the dates of the race. Make your hotel reservations FIRST,
Register before January 31st, and secure your Airline
reservations as soon as possible. TACA Airlines, our official airline, is offering
great specials; but must reserve early for the best deals.
More on TACA's fares below.
March
is too early to race? - Take a look at the fastest
triathletes. Their secret is winter base training. Start
your training now, and come to Roatan where you will
have the opportunity to sharpen and test your base, and
pinpoint your weaknesses early. Remember: Everybody will
be coming straight from their winter training, so we all have
the same advantages.
Why
Roatan? - Because
no other place has the hills, the beautiful
swimming waters, sandy beaches, friendliness, and
unspoiled-relaxed-magical atmosphere of Roatan. All at a
fraction of the cost of any other International race.
How
much will the average athlete spend?
- About $950 per person for 4 nights and 5 days. This would be
considering an average flight cost of $500 (if coming
from any U.S. city other than Miami). Miami flights are
cheaper, about $300. Central American flights are less than
$300. Taca has great deals for the race (see below). Hotel for
$75/day, and food for $35/day. These are very average costs, so it can be
cheaper or more expensive.
We
don't believe in packages, it just feels too
"touristy" and we believe in helping you have
a very individual and unique experience. Packages in my
opinion do not fit the Roatan style.

their reservations through TACA's toll free number. The
online system will not honor the discount. Call: 1-800-400-8222.
- Travelers using several airlines, and
connecting through several cities may use the
assistance of our partner company
Manaca Travel in the U.S. Manaca can
sell tickets for TACA and any other airline in the world. 1-800-477-8785.
- Hotel Reservations in Roatan will be
handled through TropicalRez. They are in the
process of obtaining the final race specials for us and
expect to have a list very shortly.
Are
you a Pro?
- We
are expecting a good group of professional athletes to
this ITU sanctioned race for 2005. The
ITU 2005 Calendar is not up yet, but we have submitted
our race to be part of the 2005 International Race
Circuit.
Our
prize purse is expected to be $8,000 (not huge, I know
but growing each year), and with the presence of
athletes ranked within the 20 top spots in the world
rankings; we expect to improve the Quality of Field
Factor (QFF) for this event. In addition you need to
realize this is a small race, so the possibilities of
improving your standings is very high.
Our
course is considered among the most difficult in the world.
If
you're planning to go to the Honolulu World Cup, this is
perhaps the best training you could have. Hills, warm
temperatures, and immediate access to great open water swims.
Roatan will inspire you to train!
Managers
and Trainers - If you would like to find out more
about our race, and how we are assisting some
professional athletes, contact us at info@bayislandstriathlon.com.
You can also think of training for a week or more. To find out
send us an email.
Registration
- Mail-in Registration is open. For
information click here. To download the registration form click

New
Sprint Swim Course - I thought about it, and realized the
sprinters did not need to swim all 1500m. Instead we will do 2
loops of 750m, and the sprinters will only need to do it once.
Olympic distance swimmers will do it twice and will come out
of the water after each loop. This will provide a
"spectator friendly" environment.
Get
fit early, and start winning early. After
